Three tournaments in March! I started the month in Daytona Beach for the PPA Florida Open. On Thursday, we had a fun paddle controversy where the legality of my new signature paddle was put to the test, and we passed. We sold out quickly after. Luckily, we’re restocked, and you can get yours here! Lina Padegimaite and I finished 6th, and DJ Young and I were two points away from punching our ticket to Championship Sunday, but we weren’t able to close it out and we finished 4th.

The following tournament was at home in Austin! It had been 85 degrees and sunny for weeks prior to the tournament, so it’s only natural that it rained constantly with temperatures in the 40s 🙄. I played singles on Thursday and Mixed on Friday with Shelby Bates, and it wasn’t one of my best performances, but there’s always another tournament. On Friday night I headed back to Wisconsin (and snow) for a wedding!

Then, back to Daytona Beach for Major League Pickleball. Clean Cause struggled again, but MLP is always fun, regardless of the results. Next up for me is the PPA Red Rock Open at the beginning of April!

I’m stoked to announce a brand new partnership with Thorlo! Every great sneaker needs a great sock, which is why I’m so excited to be partnering with Thorlo socks. Thorlo engineers sport-specific socks, which sets them apart from the competition. The socks are super durable and prevent blisters after long hours on the court! Thorlo is launching new pickleball socks that are specifically engineered for pickleball to perform and protect your feet while you play and compete.

I had one fun read this month: Open by Andre Agassi.

This has to be one of the best tennis books of all time, and you certainly don’t need to be a tennis player to appreciate it. The autobiography takes the reader through Agassi’s career from childhood to retirement and beyond.

Throughout the entire book, Agassi states that he hates tennis. It stems from being forced to practice extensive hours by his overbearing father. He hates tennis, yet he’s still able to perform at the highest level…for a time. In a slump, Agassi experimented with crystal meth…yes, crystal meth, which is insane to think that a professional athlete could do something like that!

One of the things that I took away from the book is how Agassi dealt with expectations. He put pressure on himself to perform because he felt like other people always expected him to perform: his father, Nick Bollettieri, fans, media, etc. Once Agassi began playing for himself and not caring what others thought of him (which coincided with the shaving of his head) he had his best success. I think that’s a takeaway for all of us!

Anyways, Open is one of the most entertaining books I’ve read so far, and I highly recommend it.
