Jenny and I started off the month back in Racine, WI for a wedding of a couple of our closest high school friends! Zach and Kierstyn were high school sweethearts from The Prairie School, just like Jenny and I!
Next, I flew to New York to do a live broadcast of the MLP Draft. Technical difficulties made things tough, but it was a fun experience nonetheless!
From New York City it was direct to Colorado for the Denver Open where I partnered up with Irina Tereschenko and DJ Young. We made it to the quarterfinals of both draws where we lost to the #2 seed (Matt Wright and Lucy Kovalova in mixed and Matt Wright and Dylan Frazier in men’s).
Next, it was off to Chicago to film some content with ProXR on the way to Grand Rapids, MI for the Beer City Open. BCO has to be one of the best tournaments of the year because of how much attention to detail the directors have! They sold out in like 15 minutes last year!
Finally, I took a few days off to visit Boston. I got an incredible response from the local pickleball community but left the paddles at home. In fact, I met Trey at the Harvard Museum of Art. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my paddle on me, but Trey is a master photoshopper! Boston, I’ll be back soon!

Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins
It’s too bad that Goggins isn’t part of the Stop Alzheimer’s Now swear jar because, by my calculations, he would have owed $5,280 for saying the F word alone 🤬
I cranked out this 350 page book in about a week. I couldn’t put it down. David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL, endurance athlete, motivational speaker, and author. He is known for his remarkable physical and mental feats, including completing multiple ultra-marathons, setting the Guinness World Record for the most pull-ups in 24 hours, and completing the Navy SEAL Hell Week three times.
It’s all about the mental side of things with Goggins. Goggins struggled with a physically abusive father in his young childhood and extreme poverty after escaping his father.
The book emphasizes the importance of embracing discomfort, pushing past mental and physical limits, and embracing a “calloused mind” to overcome challenges. The main takeaway was that, whenever you think you’re tapped out, your mind is in control of you. Control your own mind and you’ll be able to push through any barrier.

MLP redrafted all players for the second half of the year, and I’m stoked to squad up with Anna Bright, Andrei Daescu, and Rachel Rohrabacher. The new squad will make its tournament debut during the MLP’s Atlanta tournament from Sep. 21-24, which will kick off Season Two of the 2023 MLP calendar.
