Wow, I can’t wait to get some sleep in November…Tons of great stuff happened this month! Jenny and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary and enjoyed a fun concert in Las Vegas, The Pickleball Studio followed me around in Austin and Columbus for a mini documentary (check out the teaser here), October 19 became Zane Navratil Day, and Murray finally got the recognition he deserved in Houston!
October consisted of four straight tournaments: The PPA Championship in Las Vegas, Major League Pickleball in Columbus, the APP Houston Open, and the APP Hilton Head Open. Team BLQK won MLP (See below), JW and I were able to double dip to take gold in Houston, and Andrea Koop and I won silver in Hilton Head!
I slept in my own bed for a total of 11 nights this month, so I’m definitely excited to spend some more time back at home in November.
BLQK is back on top! Irina Tereschenko, Rafa Hewett, Parris Todd, and I went undefeated in Columbus to take home the $100,000! Throughout the season, we were the only team that didn’t make a transaction, and our chemistry was why we won, without a doubt. Check out the final match against the Hard 8s here.
Unfortunately, teams will be redrafted for the 2023 season, so the BLQK squad will never take the court together again. I guess Brady, Lebron, Kim Clijsters, and Kevin Durant wanted to break up the dynasty!
October 19th, 2022 - Zane Navratil Day
Many of you may already know how I began playing pickleball, but for those who don’t, I was a senior at The Prairie School in Racine, Wisconsin when my dad began playing pickleball. I thought it was a sport for old people , but one day I joined my dad at the Cesar Chavez Center. I got my butt kicked by these guys named Lyle, Harvey, and Al, and I was hooked. I began trying to play pickleball the right way rather than playing it like tennis.
October 19, 2022 was proclaimed “Zane Navratil Day” in Racine, WI, and the new courts at Pritchard Park were dedicated to me!
It’s an incredible honor, but the credit truly goes to the people from Racine that were instrumental in developing the game: My Dad, Mom, Lyle, Harvey, Al, Kathy, James, Margaret, Sue, Anne, Jonathan, the Racine Pickleball Club, and many more.
